ChatConnect - Case Study

ChatConnect is a community-driven digital learning initiative designed to address unemployment and the digital divide in under-resourced communities. The goal of ChatConnect is to bring learning directly to the people, using a tool they already have, instead of expecting them to overcome barriers like high data costs, lack of computer access, or unfamiliar online platforms.

Overview

ChatConnect uses WhatsApp, a platform that most people already understand and access daily, to deliver free digital skills training, mentorship, and job-readiness support. It empowers unemployed youth, graduates, and older community members by giving them an accessible way to learn in-demand digital and workplace skills, receive guidance, and connect with opportunities.

Research

Our research approach focused on understanding the root causes of unemployment and the digital divide within local communities. We began by identifying the social problem individually and gathering background information to fully understand its impact. Each group member conducted independent research, exploring academic articles, government reports, and opinion pieces to gain a deeper understanding of the challenges faced by unemployed youth, graduates, and older adults in under-resourced areas.

Logo Design

The logo features two “C” letters that appear to be two people connecting or reaching out to each other, representing the unity, collaboration, and community spirit. The two circles over the Cs form the heads of the figures, transforming the letters into people. The cap over the head represents the unemployed graduates. Only one figure has a cap on to show that our platform is for everyone, educated or not, and encourages ev everyone to achieve more and believe that they can do it. The three dots in the centre represent communication, emphasising that our platform works primarily through messaging (WhatsApp). The green person represents the youth and energy and the navy person represents older individuals.
